Midnight Youth will perform at a free public concert to support Greenpeace’s Sign On climate campaign.

The band, which began at Rangitoto College, will join Opshop, Don McGlashan and Kirsten Morrell at the event, which will be MC’ed by comedian Rhys Darby. Ambassadors Lucy Lawless and Keisha Castle-Hughes will also appear.

The Planet A March and Concert for the Climate is aimed at allowing New Zealanders to show their support of a strong outcome at the Copenhagen climate conference.

The event starts with a march from Albert Park and up Queen St to Myers Park.

Ms Lawless says those involved take climate change seriously.

"We want our prime minister to know that the people of New Zealand demand that he attends the world summit in Copenhagen and support a 40-percent 2020 emissions reduction target."

The Planet A March and Concert for the Climate is on December 5. The march up Queen St kicks off in Albert Park at 1pm. The concert in Myers Park is from 2.30pm to 6.30pm.

About a dozen or so years before the current vampire craze, and preceding Buffy by a year, the constantly provocative Xena: Warrior Princess aired an episode in its second season that featured Gabrielle and Xena turning into vampires, or “bacchae” as they’re referred to in this episode, servants of the evil Bacchus.

With The Simpsons now in its 789th season, the “Treehouse of Horror” episodes have been declining in quality for the past several decades, but when they started, they were awesome. I especially loved the vignette called “The Shinning,” a send-up of The Shining which was not only hilarious but actually a little unsettling, and the very first episode’s sketch which cleverly parodied The Amityville Horror.

And super props for one of their Treehouse sketches featuring Lucy Lawless in her Xena outfit.

Ricordate Xena: Principessa Guerriera? OK, era un personaggio inventato di una serie TV,ma la grandiosa Lucy Lawless l'ha interpretata. (Un'attrice che una volta, per poco, ha lavorato come minatrice d'oro in Australia!)Ho perso tracce di  Lucy dopo che “Xena”è finito,ma adesso lei sta tornando sul piccolo schermo in un genere familiare.

Lei apparirà come Lucretia in “Spartacus: Blood and Sand.” Questa è la vera storia di una grande rivolta di schiavi contro i romani, guidata da Spartacus. Kirk Douglas lo ha creato in modo memorabile sul grande schermo,indietro nel 1960.Per questa versione,l'attore Australiano Andy Whitfield intepreterà il riluttante leader gladiatore/rebelle.E questo sforzo via cavo per il network della Starz non è un affare poco costoso.Il regista è Sam Raimi dei film“Evil Dead” e “Spider Man”.

Ieri, quando ho letto il titolo "Lucy Lawless farà parte del cast in Spartacus" su Variety.com,ho quasi sputato il mio caffè della mattina mentre lo stavo bevendo.Immaginavo che fosse troppo bello per essere vero,probabilmente solo un Pesce d'Aprile(poichè sembra che vadano di moda in questi giorni nel mondo online).Poi ho preso un pò di tempo per leggere l'articolo stesso che era troppo corto.

Si, Lucy Lawless farà parte del cast di Spartacus: Blood and Sand,ma non come Spartacus.Piuttosto,lei interpreterà una "proprietaria di un campo di Gladiatori"Il che va bene, poichè tutte le notizie che concernon Lucy che parte del cast di qualche show è sempre una buona notizia per quel che mi riguarda.Ed è ancora di più una buona notizia,perchè la "nuova serie fantasy e combattimenti"sarà comandata da Rob Tapert (Il marito di Lawlessnella vita reale) e Sam Raimi, i ragazzi che hanno ci hanno portato la serie che ha fatto diventare Lawless famosa, Xena: Warrior Princess.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand inizierà la produzione in Aprile,e andrà in onda su Starz nel Gennaio 2010.

Così immagino sia ok che Lawless non interpreterà il ruolo di  Spartacus su Starz. Ma,citando le parole di Wooderson (Matthew McConaughey) in Dazed and Confused, sarebbe fantastico se invece lo avrebbe fatto.

Naturalmente,questa notizia mi ha fatto immaginare come una versione di Spartacus tutta al femminile potrebbe essere ,e chi potrebbe esserci sul cast (oltre a Lawless, ovviamente).

Per quelli di voi che non conoscono la storia (o non hanno mai visto l'omonimo film epico di Stanley Kubrick del 1969 ), sotto c'è una breve descrizione della trama e una bozza(grazie, Wikipedia!)dei principali personaggi:

Spartacus è la storia di uno schiavo che comanda una feroce rivolta contro l'impero Romano,e questa nuova versione dovrebbe,ovviamente,essere scritta e diretta da Sofia Coppola.

Ecco qui il nuovo e migliorato cast come lo vedo io:

Lucy Lawless come Spartacus. Spartacus è una schiava della Tracia che lavora in Libya,che viene comprata da Lentulus Batiatus, e addestrata come gladiatrice. Più avanti lei conduce la rivolta alla scuola dei gladiatori,che poi si sparge in tutto il paese.

Renee O'Connor (Xena: Warrior Princess) come Varinia. Varinia è una ragazza schiava dalla Britainnia che lavora per Batiatus, che si innamora di Spartacus e infine diventa la sua amata sposa e le da un figlio.

Nel documentario War With No Guns la narratrice Lucy Lawless (“Xena: Warrior Princess”) fa una semplice domanda: In un era di guerra civile e conflitti come creiamo una pace duratura? Per rispondere ad una of delle domande più scottanti del mondo  noi  viaggeremo per Bougainville Island in Papua New Guinea e  rivisiteremo l'entrata della Nuova  Zelanda nella più brutale delle guerre civili del  Pacifico. In un esempio senza precedenti  di  mantenimento della pace, una forza multinazionale, condotta dalla Nuova Zelanda, che ha scelto di lasciare indietro le armi  e  invece ha portato chitarre e hakas (La Danza della Guerra Maori della Nuova Zelanda)come loro armi  . War With No Guns guarda all'affascinante storia di come una guerra fu combattuta senza armi,  da un'armata che unì i popoli per la pace.

Lucy Lawless riprenderà la spada in mano?

  L'ex star di “Xena: Warrior Princess”  e stata aggiunta nel cast di una nuova serie d'azione della Starz: “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” Il network lo ha annunciato oggi.La serie di "Spartacus" è ambientata nel 73 prima di Cristo.Spartacus era uno schiavo che ha condotto una rivolta contro la Republica Romana.

Lawless, che recentemente ha fatto parte del cast di  “Battlestar Galactica,” interpreta Lucretia, che insieme al marito Batiatus possiede un campo di Gladiatori chiamato Ludus. Loro possiedono anche un soldato fatto diventare schiavo, Spartacus.Secondo il Network, “la coppia è caduta in tempi duri finanziariamente e ha comprato Spartacus sperando che le sue abilità combattive li aiuteranno a riguadagnare il loro status nel brutale mondo dei concorsi di gladiatori.”

L'attore Brutannico è stato messo nel cast come Spartacus dopo ciò che il Network descrive come “un'estenuante ricerca mondiale.” Egli ha fatto parte del cast di molte serie drammatiche Australiane, che includono: “McLeod’s Daughters,” “Packed to the Rafters,” “The Strip” e“Out of the Blue.”

La serie comincia la produzione il 1mo Aprile in Nuova Zelanda e la premiere verrà messa in onda su Starz nel Gennaio del 2010.Il produttore di “Xena”  Rob Tapert e Sam Raimi, insieme a , sono gli Executive Producers della serie.
